COURSE CURRICULUM

This 28 Day Authentic Yoga, Pranayama & Meditation Retreat in Rishikesh  is open and tailored to meet the needs of yogis at all levels. Equal focus is paid on theoretical and practical aspects. All subjects and topics are those prescribed in the extensive, and holistic format laid out by Yoga Alliance USA. Here’s a quick snapshot for you.

  • Cleansing Techniques (Neti, Rubber Neti, Kunjal, Dhauti, Nauli, Basti, Kapalabhati, Trataka)
  • Benefits and Practice Guidelines
  • Integration of Shatkarma in Personal Practice and Teaching

In the 28-Day Yoga Retreat  program, we explore advanced shatkarmas, advanced purification techniques that go beyond the basics covered in the 200-hour program. These practices aim to deeply purify the body, removing toxins and blockages to optimize the flow of prana. By mastering these advanced techniques, you will prepare yourself for more profound pranayama and meditation practices. These traditional yogic cleansing techniques are highly effective in removing illnesses and opening up blocked energy pathways, providing a transformative journey of self-discovery and inner growth.

Pranayama is the ancient yogic practice of controlling and regulating the breath to enhance vitality and promote overall well-being. In its simplest form, pranayama involves conscious awareness and deliberate manipulation of the breath to influence the flow of life force energy, known as prana, within the body. For beginners, foundational pranayama practices such as deep belly breathing (diaphragmatic breathing) and alternate nostril breathing (Nadi Shodhana) are introduced. Deep belly breathing focuses on expanding the belly on inhalation and contracting it on exhalation, promoting relaxation and grounding. Alternate nostril breathing involves gentle breath control through alternate nostrils, harmonizing the left and right hemispheres of the brain and balancing the energy channels. These beginner practices cultivate mindful breathing, enhance respiratory function, reduce stress, and lay the foundation for deeper pranayama exploration on the yogic path.

Hatha Yoga is a traditional branch of Yoga that focuses on the integration of breath (pranayama) and physical postures (asanas) to promote harmony between the body and mind. It encompasses a wide range of gentle and accessible poses suitable for beginners, providing a solid foundation for further exploration. In Hatha Yoga, emphasis is placed on proper alignment, mindful movement, and conscious breathing. Beginner poses in Hatha Yoga often include foundational standing poses like Tadasana (Mountain Pose) and Trikonasana (Triangle Pose), which enhance balance and stability. Seated poses like Sukhasana (Easy Pose) and Balasana (Child’s Pose) promote relaxation and flexibility. Other beginner-friendly poses such as Cat-Cow, Downward-Facing Dog, and Corpse Pose (Shavasana) are often introduced to improve spinal flexibility, strengthen the core, and promote relaxation. Hatha Yoga provides a gentle and accessible entry point for beginners to explore the physical and mental benefits of Yoga, fostering a balanced and holistic approach to well-being.

Vinyasa Yoga is a dynamic and fluid style of Yoga that synchronizes movement with breath. It is a popular choice for beginners seeking a practice that combines both physical exertion and mindfulness. In Vinyasa Yoga, practitioners flow through a sequence of poses, seamlessly transitioning from one posture to another in coordination with the inhalation and exhalation of the breath. This continuous movement cultivates strength, flexibility, and body awareness.

For beginners, Vinyasa classes typically start with foundational poses and gradually introduce more complex sequences as practitioners become comfortable and proficient. Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) are commonly incorporated in Vinyasa classes and serve as a foundational sequence to warm up the body and connect with the breath. The class may include a variety of standing poses, balancing poses, backbends, and inversions, all linked together in a fluid and rhythmic flow.

Vinyasa Yoga offers a creative and dynamic practice that allows beginners to explore their physical capabilities, cultivate mindful awareness, and build stamina. It encourages practitioners to find their own rhythm, honoring their body’s needs and limitations. With consistent practice, beginners can experience improved strength, flexibility, and a greater sense of flow and connection between breath and movement. Vinyasa Yoga is an empowering style that supports beginners in their journey towards a balanced and vibrant Yoga practice.

Mantra chanting is a powerful practice that can enhance your yoga experience and deepen your connection with the divine. Mantra chanting is the repetition of sacred sounds or syllables that have specific meanings and vibrations. By chanting these mantras, you can align your mind, body and spirit with the cosmic energy and create a positive atmosphere around you.

Mantra chanting class is a part of our 28 Days Yoga Retreat program, which is designed for those who have completed the 200h YTTc and want to go further in their yoga journey. In this class, you will learn:

– The history and significance of various mantras in yoga tradition

– The correct pronunciation and intonation of different mantras

– The benefits and effects of mantra chanting on your physical, mental and emotional health

– How to use mantra chanting as a tool for meditation, concentration and relaxation

– How to lead a mantra chanting session for your students or yoursel

Mantra chanting class will help you to develop your voice, confidence and creativity as a yoga teacher. You will also experience the joy and peace that comes from chanting with a group of like-minded yogis. Join us for this unique and transformative class and discover the power of sound!

Introduction to Yoga Philosophy

Yoga philosophy encompasses a rich and profound tradition that extends beyond the physical practice of Yoga asanas. Rooted in ancient wisdom, Yoga philosophy offers a comprehensive framework for understanding the human experience and cultivating a harmonious way of living.

At its core, Yoga philosophy seeks to integrate the mind, body, and spirit, guiding individuals towards self-realization and inner transformation. One of the key texts in Yoga philosophy is the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, which outlines the eight limbs of Yoga (Ashtanga Yoga). These limbs provide guidance on ethical principles (Yamas and Niyamas), physical postures (Asanas), breath control (Pranayama), sense withdrawal (Pratyahara), concentration (Dharana), meditation (Dhyana), and ultimately, transcendence (Samadhi).

By exploring Yoga philosophy, practitioners gain insights into the nature of the mind, the patterns of thought, and the interplay between the individual self (Jiva) and the universal consciousness (Brahman). It delves into concepts such as karma (the law of cause and effect), dharma (one’s purpose or duty), and the pursuit of self-realization through self-inquiry and introspection.

Understanding Yoga philosophy allows practitioners to go beyond the physical aspect of Yoga and embrace a holistic approach to life. It offers valuable teachings on cultivating mindfulness, compassion, and equanimity in our interactions with ourselves, others, and the world around us. By integrating these philosophical principles into our daily lives, we can deepen our connection with our true selves, find inner harmony, and lead a more purposeful and meaningful existence.

In our Yoga retreat, we provide opportunities to explore Yoga philosophy through discussions, guided reflections, and the application of these principles in practical ways. By delving into this profound tradition, you will gain a deeper understanding of the philosophical underpinnings of Yoga and how they can enrich your practice both on and off the mat.

In our Yoga retreat, we offer dedicated meditation classes designed specifically for beginners, providing a supportive and nurturing environment for your meditation practice. Led by experienced instructors, these classes will introduce you to various meditation techniques and guide you through the process step by step.

During the meditation classes, you will learn the fundamentals of meditation, including finding a comfortable posture, connecting with the breath, and cultivating present-moment awareness. Guided meditations will be incorporated to help you focus your attention and explore different aspects of mindfulness and relaxation. You will have the opportunity to explore various meditation techniques such as breath awareness, body scans, loving-kindness meditation, and mindfulness of thoughts and emotions.

The meditation classes in our retreat are designed to create a space of tranquility and inner exploration. Whether you are completely new to meditation or have some prior experience, these classes will provide valuable guidance and support as you embark on your meditation journey. You will receive practical tools and techniques that you can incorporate into your daily life, promoting a sense of calm, clarity, and well-being. Join us in these meditation classes to deepen your practice and discover the transformative power of stillness and self-awareness.
